4) What is the amount of Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP)?

Employees who are eligible for SMP are entitled to receive at least 90% of their average weekly earnings for the first 6 weeks. The remaining 33 weeks are paid at either:

the standard rate; or
90% of their average weekly earnings if these are less than the standard rate.

Currently, the standard rate is £117.18 per week (but this will increase from 5th April 2009 to £123.06 per week).
