Ann Stanyer

Partner, Private Client

Private Client solicitor and notary public Ann graduated from Durham University in 1981. She was formerly the head of Private Client at Hyde Mahon Bridges before merging with Cumberland Ellis in May 2008

Ann's practice covers a wide range of trust, probate and private wealth management work for both large, complex estates and smaller settlements. She advises trustees on tax and estate management issues and provides advice on UK and foreign succession issues. She also regularly advises on and prepares Property and Affairs and Personal Welfare Lasting Powers of Attorney, the registration of Enduring Powers of Attorney, statutory wills and applications to the Office of Public Guardian and Court of Protection.

Ann holds nearly 40 trusteeships and acts as executor and attorney. She has also been appointed as a receiver by the Court of Protection on a number of matters and as Administrator by the Court

As well as providing the full range of private client and wealth management advice Ann has been a Notary Public since 2001. In this capacity Ann advises companies and individuals on notarisation and legalisation requirements for foreign jurisdictions.

Sweet & Maxwell have just published Ann's first work, the authoritative Personal Chattels - Law, Practice and Tax which gives an account of the law surrounding the ownership, transfer, and taxation of personal chattels and how the law could be amended. The book is the first and foremost work in its field.  Ann is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and a member for the Solicitors for the Elderly. She regularly contributes to legal journals on the whole range of private client issues.

Ann is a keen cross country skier and completed the 42kms Engadin ski marathon in 2007 She also sails when time permits and has qualified as a RYA coastal skipper.
